A letter from President Bob Ryan

  • As our centennial in 2028 approaches, we are challenged to look beyond the present and imagine what Brophy will need in its next hundred years. The pace of change in our world demands a school that never stops adapting yet remains focused on our core mission. We must continue to form young men who think critically, act with conscience, and live lives of loving service. Our ability to sustain this mission in ways that respond to the signs of our times will depend on the people who accompany our students, the programs that nurture their growth, and the places that shape their experience.

THE BROPHY FUND

Supporting the programs, people and places that allow every student to flourish.

At the heart of Brophy’s mission is a commitment to forming young men who grow in intellect, faith, confidence, and compassion. The Brophy Fund makes this growth possible. It fuels the work of teachers who guide with purpose, strengthens relationships that foster belonging, and sustains spaces where young people discover who they are called to be.

Across the following pages, you’ll see moments that reflect the spirit of Brophy. Some capture learning that takes unexpected shape. Others reveal mentors who challenge students to think deeply and live generously. You’ll also find places that inspire creativity, reflection, and connection. Each glimpse offers insight into a community animated by curiosity, care, and faith.

The Brophy Fund keeps this community vibrant. It opens doors for students from many backgrounds and nurtures both academic rigor and spiritual depth. It helps ensure that learning at Brophy is not limited to achievement but shaped by character, humility, and service to others.

Your support sustains this work. It makes possible the moments of discovery, friendship, and purpose that define a Brophy education. And it reminds us that what happens here—every class, every encounter, every act of generosity—continues to shape the kind of world our students will one day lead.

WHERE PASSION MEETS PURPOSE

Across campus, Brophy students are exploring passions that reach every corner of school life: from arts and athletics to service, innovation, and faith. The range of programs reflects the diversity of interests within the student body and the shared spirit that drives them. What follows is a small sampling of the many ways students are learning, leading, and building community at Brophy.

ATHLETICS: Brophy athletes continue to set the standard for teamwork and dedication. More than 1,189 students competed last year, reflecting the strength of school spirit across every level. This fall, Beach Volleyball joined as the 13th varsity sport, and the Broncos have already captured state titles in Golf and Swimming & Diving, extending a school legacy that now includes 118 championships.

The program organizes monthly gatherings and community events that invite students to share experiences, celebrate one another, and form connections grounded in joy and belonging.

HOPE SQUAD: Hope Squad is part of a national peer-to-peer initiative that trains students to recognize when classmates may be struggling with their mental health and to connect them with trusted adults. The program fosters a culture of compassion, awareness, and care centered on suicide prevention and emotional wellness.

MASS CHOIR: Under the direction of Choir Director Dr. Teresa Murphy, the Mass Choir brings together more than 75 students to lead the community in worship through music. They sing at every all-school Mass and at Brophy’s student worship nights, where their combined voices fill the sanctuary. The choir welcomes all students who wish to lend their voices, regardless of prior experience.

MODEL UN: Model UN gives students the chance to step into the role of global delegates while learning diplomacy, public speaking, and international policy. Participation has grown this year, with 35 students attending a recent conference, many for the first time. The group hopes to represent Brophy at a national conference later this year.

The group played a central role in last year’s Summit on Human Dignity sculpture and continues to anchor major art events such as the Fine Arts Extravaganza, with a new Summit installation already underway.

Brophy students meet with Loyola Academy students every Monday and Wednesday after school in the band room, helping young learners build confidence and enjoy the process of making music. While the program is focused on Loyola this year, it remains open to future partnerships as it continues to grow.

A letter from Principal Jim Bopp

  • When I first came to Brophy in 2005, I was a physics teacher and the coach of a robotics team that had just begun. We had one robot, a small number of committed students, and a workshop in Keating Hall about the size of a large closet. What we lacked in space, we made up for in imagination. Those students stayed late, experimenting, troubleshooting, and learning how to take an idea from concept to creation.
