Brophy in motion

Whether on campus, out in their communities, or even across the ocean, Broncos always seem to be on the move. “I’m always impressed by the wide variety of interests and passions we see represented in our student body,” remarks President Bob Ryan. “Everywhere they go, our students bring their God-given talent, a thirst for knowledge, and a willingness to serve that is truly inspiring.”

Poetry Out Loud | Sam Hazen ’28 brought the written word to life at the Arizona Poetry Out Loud State Finals in Tucson this March. Reciting classic works by Walt Whitman, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Sara Teasdale, Sam earned a second-place finish in a competitive field of performers from across the state.

Model UN in Washington, D.C. | Nineteen members of the Model UN team competed at the North American Invitational in D.C., where four Broncos earned individual awards among 3,300 global delegates. Between sessions, the group toured the Capitol with Jackson Baker ’20 and visited the National Archives.

Brotherhood and Honor in Hawai‘i | Eighteen students from Brophy’s Veterans Advocacy Club and Hope Squad participated in Brophy’s inaugural immersion trip to O‘ahu, a journey that bridged history and service. The experience began at home with the Imprints of Honor project, where students interviewed veterans to document their stories of sacrifice. Once in Hawai‘i, the group visited Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial, trained with U.S. Coast Guard veterans at “Big Tire Bootcamp,” and explored the historical connection between St. Louis School and WWII. The trip combined rigorous physical discipline with sunrise reflections and brotherhood, grounding the mission of being “Men for Others” in the lived experiences of those who have served.

Brophy students also answered questions in a student panel.

Game Day | Every year, Brophy freshmen welcomed athletes from Special Olympics Arizona for Game Day. Organized by the Office of Faith and Justice, the event brings students together in teams led by upperclassmen, pairing each group with athletes for a day filled with sports, games, dancing, and more.While previous Game Days were half a day long, this year the event lasted a whole school day due to positive response from freshmen.

Inspired by a hero from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, the piece was performed live at Symphony Hall for thousands of Arizona students. Nevin is a multi-instrumentalist who plays piano, viola, and guitar.

Empowering Wellness | Brophy’s Gavin Reddy ’26 has been named a Daily Point of Light award recipient for his nonprofit, EMPWR Arizona. Founded in 2024, EMPWR combats childhood obesity in Native communities through Indigenous cooking classes and nutrition education. Following an $8,000 grant from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Gavin is now scaling his programming to reach more families.

Elevating Inquiry | AP Research is a rigorous, year-long course where students design and defend independent projects on topics of their choosing. New this year, Brophy’s official Institutional Review Board (IRB) process allows students to conduct this work under professional ethical standards, preparing them for publication and earning them a path toward the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma.

This year’s theme, “Bound in Brotherhood,” was a perfect reminder of what the Fashion Show is all about: celebrating the bonds seniors have built over the past four years before graduation season kicks off.

Witness on Central | On Good Friday, the Brophy community gathered for “Walking with Today’s Crucified,” a public Stations of the Cross procession along Central Avenue. The event offered a chance to reflect both on Christ’s suffering and the many forms of suffering still present today.

Technological Awareness | Organized by Luke Najafi ’27 in partnership with notMYkid, the “Raising Humans in an AI World” panel brought together over 300 attendees, including the governor, to hear from legal experts and a mother testifying before Congress on the hidden realities of AI. The event was so impactful that multiple middle schools have already reached out to Luke to help implement AI safety and digital literacy into their own curricula.

Football | Head Coach Jason Jewell led the Broncos into the AIA Open Division bracket for the first time in school history as the No. 5 seed and won a first-round game. The Broncos outlasted the eventual 6A Conference Champion Casteel Colts with a 51-42 victory before falling to Open state finalist Chandler 45-35 in the quarterfinals.

Cross Country | The Brophy cross country team finished 10th at the AIA Division I State Championship. This was the team’s 18th consecutive season with a top-10 finish at the state championships.

Brophy was the runner-up for the third consecutive season and has placed among the top two teams in six consecutive seasons with three state championships (21, 22, 23).
